UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Amir Sheikhi, assistant professor of chemical engineering at Penn State, was honored with the Hisako Terasaki Young Innovator Award at the Terasaki Innovation Summit, held March 8-10 in Los Angeles.

Organized by the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation, the recognition is for early career researchers who have made novel breakthrough technologies that are significant improvements over leading technologies, according to the award inscription.

Sheikhi, who is also affiliated with the Penn State Department of Biomedical Engineering, was selected for his work with granular hydrogels. His research group primarily works on the micro- and nanoengineering of soft matter for medical and environmental applications, such as guiding tissue regeneration, 3D bioprinting of tissues and selective removal of elements and drugs.
