UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Research papers authored by Huanyu “Larry” Cheng, James L. Henderson, Jr. Memorial Associate Professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics at Penn State, were recently featured on two journal covers. "Pathway of Transient Electronics Towards Connected Biomedical Applications" was highlighted on the March 2023 cover of Nanoscale and in Nanoscale’s 2023 Emerging Investigators themed collection, published in January, in recognition of Cheng being selected as a 2023 Emerging Investigator. The paper investigates the applications of transient electronics — devices that can “dissolve at will” after performing their functional operation — in medical implants and hardware security.
A second research paper from Cheng and his team, "Skin-Interfaced Superhydrophobic Insensible Sweat Sensors for Evaluating Body Thermoregulation and Skin Barrier Functions,” was highlighted as a supplementary journal cover of ACS Nano. The paper focuses on the team’s biosensor that uses superhydrophobic material to measure sweat vapor without absorbing water.
