Vittal Prabhu honored for contributions to engineering economy

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Vittal Prabhu, a professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering and Charles and Enid Schneider Faculty Chair in Service Enterprise Engineering, has received the 2026 Wellington Award from the Engineering Economy Division of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE).
The Wellington Award recognizes outstanding long-term contributions and service in the field of engineering economy that enhance the visibility and impact of the Engineering Economy Division of IISE. Engineering economy is the study of how economic principles can be used to make better engineering and business decisions, balancing costs, benefits and long-term impacts.
Recipients are selected based on their original contributions to engineering economy through research, publications, theoretical developments and methodological innovations, as well as their leadership and service to the profession. The award also recognizes impactful applications of engineering economy principles, including the scope, importance and originality of those applications.
The award was presented at the 2026 IISE Annual Conference, which took place May 16-19 in Arlington, Texas.
