Two engineering faculty awarded best paper for AI-enabled engineering education research

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Vittal Prabhu, professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering and Charles and Enid Schneider Faculty Chair in Service Enterprise Engineering at Penn State, and Qiushi Chen, the Korb Early Career Associate Professor in Industrial Engineering, have received the Best Conference Paper Award at the 9th Eurasian Conference on Educational Innovation 2026.
The award recognizes their paper, "Workforce for Engineering the 21st Century Service Economies: AI-Enabled Methods and Models for Transdisciplinary Service Systems Education."
The paper explores how artificial intelligence-enabled methods and educational models can help prepare future engineers for increasingly complex service-based economies. The researchers examined approaches to transdisciplinary education that integrate engineering, technology and service systems thinking to address emerging workforce needs.
The Best Conference Paper Award recognizes outstanding scholarly contributions presented at the conference and highlights the originality, quality and potential impact of the research.
