Ram Narayanan's research selected as Signals Editor's Choice article

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A research paper co-authored by Ram Narayanan, distinguished professor of electrical engineering at Penn State, has been selected as an Editor's Choice article by the journal Signals.
The paper, "Micro-Doppler Signal Features of Idling Vehicle Vibrations: Dependence on Gear Engagements and Occupancy," explores how radar-based micro-Doppler signatures— small frequency changes in radar signals — can be used to analyze vibrations produced by idling vehicles under different operating conditions. The research contributes to advancements in radar sensing and signal processing.
Editor's Choice papers are selected by the journal's editorial team in recognition of research that demonstrates exceptional quality, originality and impact.
In addition to Narayanan, the paper was co-authored by Ben Simone, radar engineer for Development Command at the Army Research Laboratory; Karl Reichard, associate research professor with the Applied Research Laboratory and the Graduate Program in Acoustics at Penn State; Daniel Watson assistant research professor at Penn State; and Kyle A. Gallagher, senior radar systems engineer and team leader at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory.
