Ram Narayanan receives Naval Research Laboratory research publication award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Ram Narayanan, distinguished professor of electrical engineering at Penn State, has been recognized with a 2025 Annual Research Publications Award from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) for a co-authored paper titled “Gradient-Based Optimization of Coherent Distributed Arrays,” published in the IEEE Sensors Journal. The award honors outstanding research contributions across the laboratory’s scientific and engineering disciplines.

Narayanan’s paper, co-authored with Michael V. Lipski and Sastry Kompella, was selected as part of NRL’s 58th Annual Research Publications Awards, which recognize significant advancements in research conducted by laboratory scientists and their collaborators. The work highlights innovative approaches to optimizing coherent distributed arrays, contributing to ongoing developments in radar and sensing technologies.

As part of the recognition, awardees are invited to attend a formal reception and dinner held in their honor at the Officers’ Club at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C., where their contributions are acknowledged and commemorated.
