Penn State doctoral student selected as 2026 iREDEFINE Fellow
Feb 6, 2026
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Vinay Kammarchedu, a doctoral student in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Penn State, has been selected as a 2026 Impact: Redefining Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty (iREDEFINE) Fellow. The iREDEFINE Fellowship supports advanced doctoral students preparing for academic careers in electrical and computer engineering.
As part of the program, Kammarchedu has been invited to attend the 2026 iREDEFINE Workshop, which will take place March 21-22in New Mexico. The workshop will be held alongside the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association (ECEDHA) Annual Conference and ECExpo.
During the workshop, Fellows will participate in professional development activities designed to prepare them for faculty careers, including a poster session where they will present their research, teaching interests and career goals to department chairs and academic leaders from across the country. The program also includes mock faculty interviews that provide participants with feedback and mentoring as they prepare for the academic job market.
Kammarchedu’s research focuses on developing advanced sensing systems built from emerging materials and data-driven techniques. He designs new types of electronics to detect key chemical, biological and physical signals in real time, including sensors based on two-dimensional materials, flexible wearable devices and artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced measurement platforms, according to an announcement of the 2025 Rustum and Della Roy Innovation in Materials Research Awards, one of which Kammarchedu won.
Kammarchedu is advised by Aida Ebrahimi, a Thomas and Sheila Roell Early Career associate professor of electrical engineering in the College of Engineering.
