Graduate student earns student paper award at IEEE wearable sensors conference

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Heshmat (Amir) Asgharian, a graduate student in electrical engineering, received the Third-Place Student Paper Award at the 2026 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers International Conference on Flexible and Printable Sensors and Systems (IEEE FLEPS) for research on graphene-based wearable sensing technology.
Asgharian earned the recognition for the paper "Graphene Electronic Skin for Wearable Strain Sensing of Respiration and Finger Motion," co-authored with four others, including Aida Ebrahimi, an associate professor of electrical engineering and of biomedical engineering and the associate director for research strategy at the Materials Research Institute at Penn State.
The IEEE FLEPS Student Paper Award recognizes outstanding student-led research presented at the annual conference, highlighting innovation and technical excellence in flexible, printable and wearable electronics.
