Margaret Byron receives 5 Sigma Physicist Honor from American Physical Society

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Margaret Byron, Martin W. Trethewey Early Career Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Penn State, was selected as a 2025 5 Sigma Physicist Honoree by the American Physical Society (APS). 

The 5 Sigma Physicist Honor celebrates volunteers who demonstrate “outstanding advocacy that is crucial to maintaining the strength of the scientific enterprise,” according to the APS website. Byron’s research interests include the fluid dynamics of animal locomotion, the transport of large particles in turbulent environmental flows and the integration of diverse perspectives into mechanical engineering course curricula.
