Sept 28, 2026

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Catherine Berdanier, professor of mechanical engineering, has been selected as a co-editor in chief of the Journal of Engineering Education (JEE), the peer-reviewed international journal of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

Berdanier will begin her four-year term on Jan. 1, 2028, alongside James Huff of the University of Georgia, whose term begins Jan. 1, 2027. The two were selected by an ASEE Board-appointed search committee chaired by CEO Brian Novoselich.

JEE is published quarterly and features scholarly research in engineering education, helping to develop knowledge that can improve engineering education around the world.

Berdanier began serving on the JEE editorial board in 2021 as an assistant editor and has since advanced to associate editor, senior associate editor and deputy editor. She also served on the journal’s subcommittee on artificial intelligence usage guidelines and is a member of ASEE’s Committee on Scholarly Publications.

At Penn State, Berdanier is the director of the Engineering Cognitive Research Laboratory, where her research focuses on understanding how people think, learn and make decisions in engineering contexts.

As co-editor in chief, Berdanier will help lead the journal’s editorial operations and contribute to its continued development as a source of research and scholarship in engineering education.
