Electrical engineering grad student receives Best Poster Award at CHIMES annual review

Oct 2, 2026

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Mahin Ahamed, an electrical engineering graduate student, received the Best Poster Award in the mmWave Integration session at the fourth annual review of the Center for Heterogeneous Integration of Micro Electronic Systems (CHIMES), held Aug. 25-26 at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Ahamed’s poster, “Development of Next-Gen 3D Vertical Chip Stacking on Glass for Sub-THz Wireless Applications,” presented her ongoing research on advanced glass-based three-dimensional integration architectures for next-generation wireless applications.

Ahamed is advised by Madhavan Swaminathan, director of CHIMES and head of Penn State’s Department of Electrical Engineering. Her research focuses on advanced packaging, RF/mmWave technologies and high-frequency interconnects. The CHIMES Annual Review brought together more than 136 students, faculty, industry liaisons and representatives from the Semiconductor Research Corporation and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to review the center’s research progress and future priorities. Students presented their research through lightning talks, poster presentations and demonstrations.

Over its first four years, CHIMES has supported 187 students and postdoctoral researchers working under 27 principal investigators across 19 universities. The center will complete its fifth and final year in 2027 before transitioning to CHIMES 2.0, which will continue research related to AI data centers, communications and sensing.
