May 19, 2025
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Viswanathan Ganesh, a doctoral student in architectural engineering in the Penn State College of Engineering, received the 2025-26 American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineering (ASHRAE) Graduate Student Grant-n-Aid Award, a competitive research award of up to $10,000.
The award supports graduate-level research that advances heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) technologies. Ganesh was recognized for his project, “Development of a Machine Learning Based Optimized Control for Data Center HVAC Operation,” which aligns with ASHRAE’s mission of supporting critical facilities and data centers.
The award encourages both research excellence and professional engagement. Ganesh will present his work at an upcoming ASHRAE meeting as part of the grant requirements.
Ganesh has previously received several honors at Penn State, including the 2024 Harry G. Miller Fellowship in Engineering and the 2024 Gordon D. Kissinger Graduate Research Fellowship, as well as the Marlene and Joseph Borda Architectural Engineering Graduates Travel Fellowship. He received his master’s degree in sustainable electric power engineering and electromobility from the Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, and his bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering from the SRM Institute of Science and Technology, India.
