WHERE: Interesting Engineering, ‘US student cracks 100-year-old math problem to unlock wind turbines’ true power

WHO: Sven Schmitz, the Boeing/A. D. Welliver Professor of Aerospace Engineering, and Divya Tyagi, aerospace engineering graduate student

WHAT: Divya Tyagi, an aerospace engineering graduate student, and Sven Schmitz, the Boeing/A.D. Welliver Professor of Aerospace Engineering, were quoted in an Interesting Engineering article that discusses a recent breakthrough made by Tyagi. Originally challenged by Schmitz, her adviser, to explore solutions to British aerodynamicist Hermann Glauert’s century-old optimum rotor disk solution, Tyagi’s simple addendum improves the efficiency and enhances the output of wind turbines.
