UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State College of Engineering’s Office of Corporate and Industry Engagement invites faculty members to I-CONNECT: Intellectual Property and Innovation. The event will take place virtually and on campus at 504 Engineering Collaborative Research and Education Building (ECoRE) from 12:30 – 2 p.m. ET on April 2.
I-CONNECT, which stands for “Industry Collaboration Opportunities for Networking, Nurturing, Education, Communication and Translation,” is a new series of workshops aimed to equip faculty with tools for industry engagement. The inaugural April 2 workshop will focus on understanding intellectual property and why it matters, as well as how to leverage intellectual property to facilitate technological innovation.
Jon D’Silvia, assistant clinical professor of law and director of the Intellectual Property Law Clinic, and Denise Wetzel, the Eric N. and Bonnie S. Prystowsky Early Career Science Libraries Professor and patent and trademark librarian will speak on leveraging different types of intellectual property to facilitate innovation. Priya Baboo, senior director of corporate and industry engagement in the College of Engineering, will moderate a Q&A session.
Future I-CONNECT workshops will cover aspects of industry collaboration, including soliciting industry support for research and collaborating on joint proposal submissions.
“I-CONNECT workshops will bring together industry leaders, faculty peers and administrative experts to share best practice tools and techniques on collaborating with industry for faculty impact,” said Baboo. “With increased emphasis on industry collaborations, the I-CONNECT workshops are intended to support our faculty by providing the resources needed for their continued success.”
