Penn State civil engineers look to inspire local middle schoolers with drone flying demo

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A group of Penn State civil engineers recently held a drone flying demonstration for students at the Park Forest Middle School and Mount Nittany Middle School in State College. Ming Xiao, alongside graduate student Matthew Hallissey and undergraduate student Isabel Rubino, introduced middle schoolers to STEM through different activities that touched on topics like civil engineering and Arctic research. 

This fall marks the fourth consecutive semester Xiao and his students have hosted activities tailored to introducing students at the two local middle schools to the world of STEM.
