UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Douglas Werner, the John L. and Genevieve H. McCain Chair Professor in the Penn State School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, received the Harrington-Mittra Award in Computational Electromagnetics from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S). He received the $1000 award in July at the IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation.
The award recognizes the past technical accomplishments and future potential of an outstanding contributor to the area of computational electromagnetics, according to the society. Werner was recognized for his contributions to the development of computational electromagnetics and optimization techniques for the simulation and inverse design of antennas, metamaterials and optical devices.
Werner won several IEEE AP-S awards in previous years, including the 2023 Kraus Antenna Award, the 2019 Chen-To Tai Distinguished Educator Award and the 2011 Edward E. Altshuler Prize Paper Award.
