Stephanie Butler Velegol wins teaching award from American Institute of Chemical Engineers

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Stephanie Butler Velegol, associate department head and teaching professor of chemical engineering in the Penn State College of Engineering, received the Award for Excellence in Chemical Engineering Teaching Practice from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) at the institute’s annual meeting on Oct. 28 in San Diego.
The award recognizes an individual who demonstrates effective teaching practices, such as classroom teaching, community outreach, student support, inclusive strategies, student and faculty mentorship, and dissemination of evidence-based techniques, according to AIChE.
Butler Velegol was recognized “for fostering student success and belonging through innovative teaching strategies and creating inclusive experiences for both students and faculty,” according to the award website.
