UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Zaid Pervez, a doctoral student in electrical engineering in the Penn State College of Engineering, earned second place in the student paper competition at the International Union of Radio Science’s Atlantic Radio Science Meeting. The meeting took place in late May in Gran Canaria, Spain.
Pervez, a student in Professor of Electrical Engineering Victor Pasko’s research group, published a paper in March in Geophysical Research Letters. Pervez’s research involves conducting numerical simulations of electromagnetic radiation in the Earth’s natural environment, which occur as a result of lightning discharges and terrestrial gamma ray flashes.
