Engineering offers inclusive leadership workshops in equity, allyship, diversity

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Center for Engineering Outreach and Inclusion at Penn State is offering a series of workshops — Inclusive Leadership in Equity, Allyship and Diversity (ILEAD). The ILEAD program is designed for College of Engineering staff and faculty to build intentional knowledge and skills to contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment. By completing workshops, participants earn digital badges demonstrating their commitment to acting as leaders for diversity, equity, inclusion and allyship in the College of Engineering and beyond.
Spring 2024 courses
Please note: All course sessions will occur from noon to 1 p.m., except for "Military Cultural Competency – Be a Veteran Ally," which will be held noon to 2 p.m.
- Wednesday, Jan. 31 — "Foundations of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion"
- Wednesday, Feb. 7 — "Intersection of Bullying and Harassment in the Workplace"
- Wednesday, Feb.14 — "Acknowledgement of Land – Recognizing and Respecting Indigenous Peoples"
- Wednesday, Feb. 21 — "White Privilege"
- Wednesday, Feb. 28 — "Military Cultural Competency – Be a Veteran Ally"
- Wednesday, March 6 — "Equity, Belonging, Liberation, and Social Change"
- Wednesday, March 13 — "Interfaith Education: Interpersonal Understanding"
- Wednesday, March 20 — "The Paul Robeson Cultural Center (PRCC)"
- Wednesday, March 27 — "Pronouns & Why They Matter"
- Wednesday, April 3 — "Basic Training – Understanding our Veteran and Military Students"
- Wednesday, April 10 — "Interfaith Education: Societal Understanding"
- Wednesday, April 17 — "Microaggressions"
- Wednesday, April 24 — "Native Appropriations: Rethinking American Indian Mascots"
- Wednesday, May 1 — "Implicit Bias"
- Wednesday, May 8 — "Foundations of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion"
The ILEAD short courses are designed to help advance participants' knowledge and understanding in these areas, with 60-minute, synchronous Zoom presentations with campus partners, college staff and faculty.
For ILEAD certification, complete one required course — "Foundations for Diversity and Inclusion," and three additional elective courses. Individual courses also may be taken without working toward a certificate. Participants will receive a badge for each completed course.
Those who achieve ILEAD certification will be recognized at the College of Engineering Annual Staff Awards Ceremony and Reception.
