Alp Durmus selected as member of lighting industry’s 40 Under 40

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Alp Durmus, assistant professor of architectural engineering at Penn State, was selected as a member of the 2023 group of 40 Under 40, sponsored by lighting companies Flix and Light Collective. According to the award website, 40 under 40 is an annual competition to identify early-career individuals who work in a creative capacity to apply lighting in architecture. Candidates display “outstanding talent and potential and have demonstrable achievements in the lighting field.”
Winners were asked to share why they “choose light.” Durmus responded, “It is the medium through which we shape emotions, experiences and environments. Light is the brushstroke that paints the canvas of our lives, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary, and illuminating the path to a brighter, more connected future.”
