UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Angie Castro, a chemical engineering doctoral student, received second place at the American Institute for Chemical Engineers’ (AIChE) annual poster session. Castro rose above 90+ other entries to be recognized as the second-place winner of the Materials Engineering & Sciences Division (MESD).
Castro’s poster, titled “Gelatin Methacryloyl Granual Hydrogel Bioinks for in situ Bioprinting,” explores how a particular makeup of bioink can be used for in situ bioprinting. According to Castro, in situ bioprinting is a form of 3D printing where bioinks are deposited directly into a patient's body to create tissue substitutes.
Castro was recognized for the award at the MESD business meeting, which occurred on Oct. 29 in San Diego.
