UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Joseph F. Horn, professor of aerospace engineering at Penn State, was named a Vertical Flight Society (VFS) Technical Fellow for 2023. Horn was one of nine individuals recognized by the society in 2023.
Technical fellows are members whose career-based, technical accomplishments significantly advance the interests of the vertical flight community, according to the society’s website. The title is one of several “prestigious awards” given by VFS annually.
Horn was granted the honor for his “30 years of sustained excellence and leadership in research, teaching and service to the vertical flight community, specifically in the areas of flight controls, simulation, handling qualities and aeromechanics,” according to a VFS press release.
The VFS 2023 award winners will be honored on May 18 at a banquet during the society’s 79th Annual Forum & Technology Display in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Kenneth Brentner, professor of aerospace engineering at Penn State, was named a VFS Technical Fellow in 2022.
