College of Engineering recognizes 2023 Early Career Award recipients

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State College of Engineering will recognize 10 alumni with the Early Career Award for their achievements and demonstrated commitment to their professions, communities and Penn State at a ceremony on June 16 at University Park. 

“Our Early Career Award recipients represent College of Engineering alumni who are at the beginning of their careers and already have impacted the discipline of engineering and the world,” said Anthony Atchley, interim Harold and Inge Marcus Dean of Engineering. “They not only contribute meaningfully to their own professions but also give back to current students, empowering them to solve the major challenges of today and tomorrow.” 

Awardees must have received their Penn State degree in engineering in the last 18 years and will be selected based on “representation of Penn State’s core values; commitment to maintaining a lifelong relationship with the college; and success in professional experience and education, community service and involvement, and career and professional leadership,” according to the Early Career Award website

The 2023 Early Career Award winners are: 

  • Stephen Blanchard, integrated bachelor and master of architectural engineering, 2013; chief operating officer, TRIO Electric. 
  • Brett Garrett Butler, bachelor of science in industrial engineering, 2007; general manager, Precision Custom Components. 
  • Shaun E. Clair, bachelor of science in engineering science, 2006; vice president of sales, Clair Global. 
  • Maryellen (Mimi) Connor, bachelor of science in mechanical engineering, 2015; consultant, Slalom. 
  • Michael J. Ducker, bachelor of science in mechanical engineering, 2009; senior vice president and head of hydrogen infrastructure, Mitsubishi Power.  
  • John W. Fuller, bachelor of science in electrical engineering, 2006; senior project manager and intelligent transportation system and lighting services lead, McMahon Associates. 
  • Christopher M. Haggerty, bachelor of science in bioengineering, 2007; director of data science, New York-Presbyterian Hospital. 
  • Hilary Ruby, bachelor of science in mechanical engineering and in nuclear engineering, 2009; master of engineering in nuclear engineering, 2012; director of digital engineering services and global hydrogen business development, Westinghouse Electric Co. 
  • Prateek Srivastava, master of engineering in civil engineering, 2017; structural engineer, Stantec. 
  • Rachel Westbrook, bachelor of science in mechanical engineering, 2016; advanced driving systems engineer, Ford Motor Co.
