What: William Bahnfleth, professor of architectural engineering, was quoted in an article in The New York Times on building ventilation as it pertains to public health generally and infectious disease in particular. Bahnfleth, who is also the chairman of the epidemic task force at the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), commented on the indoor air quality standards set by ASHRAE, noting that they do not currently address if the air quality will protect inhabitants from the risk of infection, but that society is developing new standards to focus on addressing the transmission of airborne pathogens.
