1/26/2022
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — U.S. News and World Report ranked Penn State World Campus among its "Best Online Programs" for 2022, with the University’s online graduate engineering programs tied for No. 3 overall and for veterans.
The annual rankings, which were released today (Jan. 25), also highlighted discipline-based programs, with four engineering programs in the top ten:
- No. 2 (tie), graduate industrial engineering
- No. 3, graduate engineering management
- No. 4 (tie), graduate mechanical engineering
- No. 7, graduate electrical engineering
“Penn State is leading the way in online engineering education,” said Justin Schwartz, Harold and Inge Marcus Dean in the College of Engineering. “With innovative and strategic approaches to online learning, our instructors are provided a world-class education for the future engineering workforce.”
The graduate electrical engineering program is led by the Penn State Harrisburg School of Science, Engineering, and Technology and offered in partnership with the Penn State Department of Electrical Engineering. The graduate engineering management program is led by the Penn State Great Valley School of Graduate Professional Studies and offered in partnership with the Penn State Harrisburg School of Science, Engineering, and Technology, and the School of Business Administration. The College of Engineering at University Park contributes courses to both programs and houses the graduate industrial engineering and graduate mechanical engineering programs.
U.S. News considered more than 380 colleges and universities in its bachelor’s programs rankings by reviewing surveys submitted by the institutions. The organization rated the institutions on categories of engagement, services and technology, faculty credentials and training, and expert opinion.
The surveys for graduate degree programs measured those four categories, as well as student excellence. The Best Online Programs for Veterans rankings are based on the same factors as its Best Online Programs rankings, in addition to an institution’s ability to help make college more affordable and accessible through the GI Bill, scholarships and financial aid programs designed for military students. The specialties rankings were based on ratings provided by peer institutions.
Several other Penn State World Campus programs were also highly ranked, representing a wide swath of disciplines and degrees.
