28 new faculty members join the College of Engineering

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Twenty-eight new faculty members have joined the Penn State College of Engineering since the end of the spring semester. The 17 tenured or tenure-line members and 11 non-tenure-line members represent 11 units and departments and include one dean and two new department heads.
“We welcome the new faculty members to the College of Engineering, where we are growing in both numbers and in impact,” said Anthony Atchley, acting dean of the College of Engineering. “They bring expertise in a wide range of strategic priorities and are already collaborating across the college and Penn State. There is no doubt they will make innovative contributions to the college and their fields, all while mentoring the next generation of engineers and helping us build an inclusive engineering community.”
This list includes new faculty members who started at the college between March 30 and Sept. 1.
Tenure-line faculty who joined the college in summer or early fall 2022:
- Prakash Chakraborty, assistant professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering
- James Coder, associate professor of aerospace engineering
- Roberto Fernández, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering
- Brian Fronk, associate professor of mechanical engineering
- Xiaogang Hu, Dorothy Foehr Huck and J. Lloyd Huck Chair in Neurorehabilitation and associate professor of mechanical engineering. Hu is also affiliated with the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences and the Center for Neural Engineering, as well as the College of Health and Human Development’s Department of Kinesiology and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

- Christine Kirchhoff, associate professor of law, policy, and engineering in the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs
- Yunting Liu, assistant professor of electrical engineering

- David Mazyck, head of the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs
- Vincent Meunier, P. B. Breneman Chair and Department Head and professor of engineering science and mechanics

- Sachin Gore, assistant teaching professor of mechanical engineering, director of undergraduate studies

- Ahmed Khalafallah, teaching professor of civil and environmental engineering
- Peter Kovacs, assistant research professor of biomedical engineering
