Postdoctoral research fellow wins two first-place awards at Penn State symposium

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Lissa Melis, a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Penn State College of Engineering, took home two first-place awards at Penn State’s 15th Annual Postdoctoral Research Symposium, held on Dec. 9 in the HUB-Robeson Center, Heritage Hall. Melis presented her research, “The real-time on-demand bus routing problem: the convenience of a taxi ride for the price of a bus ticket,” which focused on creating a large-scale ride-sharing system that is both efficient and sustainable. She received first place for best poster and first place for best presentation. Melis is part of the Urban Transportation Systems Group led by Vikash Gayah, associate professor in civil and environmental engineering.
