Ilya Kovalenko joins Department of Mechanical Engineering

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Ilya Kovalenko joined Penn State as an assistant professor of mechanical engineering and industrial and manufacturing engineering on Jan. 1. He heads the Control and Automation for Intelligent Systems Lab at Penn State. Kovalenko earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a master’s degree and doctorate, both in mechanical engineering, from the University of Michigan.
“I am interested in developing, analyzing and applying control theory and artificial intelligence to improve the safety, flexibility and performance of complex, dynamic systems, such as manufacturing systems,” Kovalenko said.
