Penn State’s Center for Energy Law and Policy is hosting a series of webinars this semester focusing on the economic, human health, legal and industry aspects of Pennsylvania joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), an agreement among almost a dozen states in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from electric power plants. The webinars, which are free and open to the public, will be held at noon on Fridays via Zoom. Registration is required. IMAGE: PIXABAY
Virtual seminar to address initiative's effects on air quality, health outcomes
10/9/2020
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the electric power sector, but it is likely to reduce emissions of other pollutants that have implications for clean air and human health. Wei Peng, assistant professor of international affairs and civil and environmental engineering, will discuss the potential health-related benefits of RGGI for Pennsylvania and the region at noon Friday, Oct. 16.
Peng’s talk will cover topics such as why managing greenhouse gas emissions can have co-benefits related to local air quality and which areas of Pennsylvania and the larger region are most likely to see improvements in air quality. The seminar, which is free and open to the public, will be held through Zoom. Registration is required.
Peng’s talk is part of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative seminar series hosted by Penn State’s Center for Energy Law and Policy. The center is a University-wide initiative that supports independent and interdisciplinary research, education and stakeholder engagement on complex energy issues. It provides thought leadership on energy issues where emerging science and technology are intertwined with legal, economic and social institutions.
